The new senior activity center has opened in Music City Mall — Lewisville. This temporary space will host senior activities during the Thrive multigenerational center’s construction, which is scheduled for completion in 2020.
The Thrive is replacing the recreation and senior activity centers in Memorial Park. While the previous plan had been for the old centers to remain open on the south side of the park while Thrive was being built on the north side, the city decided to build an extended parking lot after the construction bids were lower than expected. However, doing so necessitated closing the existing centers.
Rec center activities were incorporated into the Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center on Civic Circle, but the senior activity center needed an entirely new space. This new space opened yesterday in the mall.
The 80,000 square foot facility is on the second floor on the far east side of the mall, right next to Macy’s.
The nearest entrance is entrance 4, a second-floor entrance between Macy’s and the Cinemark. The mall has already added 10 new accessible parking spaces to accommodate an increased number of senior residents at that entrance. The facility will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
