Pedestrian killed on I-35E

Just after 7:15 p.m. Saturday night, a pedestrian was struck and killed in the northbound lanes of I-35E, around the 1400 block.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Barnwell of Highland Village.

Lewisville Police Captain Kendall Lynn said that a Little Elm man, his pregnant wife, and their two-year-old son were travelling north on I-35 when the victim attempted to cross the roadway.  The car then struck Barnwell, killing him.

The highway was shut down for almost three hours.

Lynn said police did not have independent witnesses of the crash.  The pregnant passenger of the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution after the crash.

We will update this story with more information if we receive it.

  1. This crossing over I35 is crazy! My daughter and I were driving I35 on Fri afternoon when a woman and man both crossed over. My daughter slammed on her brakes as to not hit the woman who literally ran out in front of her then the man followed seeing the cars stop. I was amazed that no one that day was killed in front of us.
