Multi-fatality crash kills two on I-35E

Just before 6 a.m. Sunday morning, a pickup truck with a driver and two passengers slammed into the back of a parked 18-wheeler’s trailer, killing the two passengers of the pickup.

Lewisville Police Captain Kendall Lynn said that the crash happened in the 2000 block of Northbound Interstate 35E, just north of the F.M. 407 overpass, and south of Garden Ridge.

Lewisville paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 6:01 a.m., and by 6:06 a.m. had reported the two passengers were dead at the scene. Firefighters extracted the driver of the pickup, and transported them to Denton Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

Lynn said that the initial indication was that the 18-wheeler had been stopped alongside the highway, and was about seven feet off of the roadway when the pickup crashed into the back of it.

Police shut down all lanes northbound I-35E at Garden Ridge, and rerouted traffic along the service road. The highway was shut down until after 10 a.m. as the crash was being investigated.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office has identified one of the victims as Alejandro Martinez Aguilar, 41, of Denton.  The other victim’s name has not been released, but police say that he was a Hispanic male age 64.  We do not have current status on the driver.
