Man shot on Sam Rayburn in early morning drive-by

Lewisville Police officers discovered a man shot multiple times on Sam Rayburn Tollway early this morning.

At 3:38 a.m., police received a person shot call from the victim himself, Deandre Conway, better known by his stage name Yella Beezy, 26. Conway had been fired at in his vehicle on the 2600 block of northbound Sam Rayburn Tollway more than a dozen times, and struck thrice in the arm and upper body area.

As Oak Cliff rapper Yella Beezy, Conway’s career has taken off over the past two years, most recently opening for Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z when they stopped in Arlington and Houston in September. His 2017 single “That’s on Me” has hit several million views on Youtube, as has his 2018 followup “Up One.”

LPD Capt. Christopher Butterworth said Conway was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Detectives are still trying to determine what lead to the shooting at this time.

This is the fourth shooting in Lewisville in the past two weeks, none of which have resulted in a fatality as of yet. We will update this story with more information as we receive it.

UPDATE: Police Capt. Jesse Hunter confirms that Conway is in stable condition, and could be released from the hospital soon.
