A motorcycle rider from Oklahoma was taken to a Denton hospital shortly before midnight Sunday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in the 1500 block of N. I-35E in Lewisville.

Capt. Michael Lane of the Lewisville Police Department said the driver of the motorcycle had been having electrical problems with his motorcycle and was pushing it off at an exit when a dark colored vehicle struck the motorcycle and the man pushing it from behind, and then fled the scene. The accident occurred about 11:25 p.m.

“The operator stated that he was riding northbound on the interstate when his motorcycle began experiencing electrical problems,” Lane said. “His wife was following close behind and they arranged for her to go to purchase a new battery. As the man began pushing the motorcycle off the interstate using a nearby exit ramp, the motorcycle was struck from behind by a dark colored vehicle which fled the scene.”

Lane said the vehicle should have damage to its right front and a missing passenger side mirror. The make and model of the vehicle was not determined.

Police did not release the name of the injured man who suffered severe injuries to his leg and was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center by Lewisville Fire Department medics. The man is expected to recover from his injuries.
