RockPointe Church in Flower Mound has worked in partnership with Feed the Hunger, an evangelical mission organization, for eight years, hosting meal pack-a-thons every spring and fall. November’s event reached a significant milestone — the church’s three millionth meal packed.
The church’s semi-annual Feed the Hunger pack-a-thon hosts 1,400 volunteers over the course of four days. By weekend’s end, 250,000 meals will have been measured, scooped, packed, sealed, boxed and loaded onto an 18-wheeler.
Each pack offers six servings worth of nutrient-dense food designed to help malnourished children and families. The meals have been distributed all over the world. RockPointe Church specifically has fed families in Beaumont, Texas following the Hurricane Harvey flooding, an economically depressed area of Kentucky and a Haitian orphanage.
More than 50 percent of the volunteers for Feed the Hunger originate from outside of the RockPointe Church congregation. The event has become popular enough that volunteer slots fill up quickly. The event is designed to be family-friendly. Anyone above age 6 is welcome.
