A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck near the intersection of Church and Mill Street during the Holiday Stroll event Saturday night, Nov. 18.  A witness said she tried to cross the street mid-block.

LPD Capt. Casey Carter said that the incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. as the event was concluding, and that the adult female victim was transported to Medical City Denton with a minor head injury.

Carter said the driver of the truck stopped, and that the woman was helped by an off-duty paramedic who happened to be nearby.

Update 11/21/2017:

Friends and relatives of the victim had posted on social media that she had been in intensive care for a brain injury.

A family member of the victim told The Lewisville Texan Journal that they would prefer not to release the name of the woman at this point.  As of this afternoon, she was still being treated in the intensive care unit at Medical City Denton, but had been awake and even was able to get up and walk around for a short time.  She is said to be resting and hoping to be released from ICU very soon, but would likely need further treatment and physical therapy.

Update 11/22/2017:

The victim is a 31-year-old single mother of two young children, according to her mother, who preferred we not use her name.

She was on her way to Wayne Ferguson Plaza to see the tree lighting, and had crossed Mill Street mid-block, just south of Church Street.  She had made it across three lanes of Mill Street before being struck by the truck, which was travelling 25-30 mph, according to the crash report.

We will provide further updates if we receive them.

  1. Exactly. I saw the aftermath. Looked like the pedestrian (among many) were jaywalking in a dark area. This is why people should not be careless and walk in a designated crosswalk.

  2. I was in the car behind that truck when that happened and gave the police a statement. I agree that people should be more careful when crossing a busy street. That said, I’ve been thinking about this all night so I’m glad to hear she only has minor head wound. I was praying for her.
