A suspect in a burglary of a restaurant Tuesday night led Lewisville Police on a chase to Dallas, where the man was shot after shooting at police, officials said.  Radio recordings put the speed of the chase as high as 110 mph.

According to Lewisville Police, officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call at Regal Buffet, located in the 200 block of North I-35E at 11:52 p.m. on Dec. 6. Police said witnesses reported a man in a red pick-up truck had pulled in front of the business, smashed the glass of the left door of the entrance and gained entry.  The man fled the scene and traveled south on I-35E.

A Lewisville officer saw a vehicle matching the description, traveling southbound near Corporate Drive, and attempted a traffic stop.  The suspect led police on a pursuit into Dallas.  Farmers Branch and Dallas officers assisted.

The 48-year-old male suspect exited his vehicle at the Regency Hotel in the 11000 block of LBJ Freeway in Dallas.  A Lewisville officer chased him into the hotel. The suspect fired a round at the officer but did not hit him, LPD Capt. Scott Haynes said.

The suspect backed out of the hotel into a perimeter set up by Dallas Police, Haynes said, and was confronted by them. The suspect shot at a Dallas officer, who returned fire, striking the suspect.

Dallas Police said that the man is in custody with non-life-threatening injuries.

Regal Buffet owner and manager Sam Zhang said about $500 was stolen, of which about $100 was in cash and the rest in coins. After reviewing surveillance footage, Zhang said the suspects gait and appearance matched that of a suspect who stole about $1000 from the buffet on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

During the previous burglary, the suspect shattered the glass of the right door and took the entire drawer from the register.

Zhang said he thinks the suspect targeted the establishment due to the easy access to a highway getaway.

Haynes said the suspect will most likely be charged in Denton County with burglary of a building and felony evading in a vehicle. Dallas Police would not release the suspect’s charges in Dallas County.

Regal Buffet has replaced the broken door and continues to run regular operating hours.
