With the Texas heat making daylight hours difficult to stay outside in, the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area is turning to nighttime events to help Lewisville Texans get their outdoors time. The park is hosting several events around dusk this weekend-
Bugs in a Blanket, 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. June 29
This new program that will shine some light on our six-legged friends of the night. We will meet at the Blackjack Trail and set up a light station to attract and examine insects common to LLELA. There will be a short hike along the Blackjack trail to examine insects in their natural habitat as well. Registration is $5 per person and closes at 2 p.m. June 28.
Night Hike, 8 to 10 p.m. June 30
Join our trail guides as they lead a moonlit stroll through the woods and across the prairie. We may hear some bumps in the night, but have no fear — it’s probably just an armadillo. Howling coyotes, hooting owls and other nocturnal sounds will provide an out-of-the-ordinary hiking experience. Registration is $10 per person and closes at 11 a.m. June 29.
Primitive LLELA, 6 6 p.m. July 1 to 3 p.m. July 2
Camping is as easy as ABC 123. Don’t believe us? Spend a night out at LLELA with our guidance and our gear. We’ll teach you the basics from setting up your tent to preparing dinner over an open flame. Camp site, camping gear, cookware and firewood will be provided. There is no electricity available at the campgrounds. We will offer you some tips on how to prepare for an off-the-grid experience after you register.
Registration for these events are $5 per person closing at 2 p.m. June 28 for Bugs in a Blanket, $10 per person closing at 11 a.m. June 29 for the Night Hike and $25 per person closing 11 a.m. June 29 for Primitive LLELA.
