Lewisville resident Bret Wooten’s commentary entitled “Secrets in the Classroom,” which ran in print in The Lewisville Texan Journal, and online and on the air on public radio station KERA, has won an award.

The station entered his commentary in the Public Radio News Directors Inc. (PRNDI) contest, where it earned second place in the commentary category.

Wooten’s wife is an elementary school principal in Lewisville ISD. His commentary addressed her early days as a teacher and how he came to accept and support his wife’s personal expenses on behalf of her students, once he understood where they were coming from, and the secrets they held.

“Congratulations to you. It’s well-deserved!” wrote Sam Baker, Morning Edition host and senior editor for KERA News.

The station won three first-place awards, and two second-place awards in this year’s competition, which they say brings them to an award count this year of 29.
