The deadline for Be the Next… Performer Challenge entries is 11:59 p.m. April 29.
The City of Lewisville is searching for the best up-and-coming Texas-style musicians for a chance to win a booking at a future City of Lewisville concert event.
This is a two-phase performance contest.
Phase one: Upload a video of yourself performing a cover of a well-known song written or recorded by a Texas artist.
Videos must be of a solo performance, or with one accompanist only. Performance must be limited to five minutes. Videos can be uploaded to the MCL Grand Facebook page, where contestants also will find an entry form and the complete contest rules. All videos must be your own work, and you must own the rights to distribute the images. You also must have the consent of those whose faces are visible in the video.
Phase two: Three semifinalists will be selected from the video entries by a staff and artist committee. They will be notified of their selection no later than May 4. Those three semifinalists will have a chance to perform their cover song as the opening act for the May 12 Texas Tunes concert featuring Jon Christopher Davis and Deryl Dodd. Each semifinalist will have five minutes to perform at this concert. Performances begin at 8 p.m. at Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater,100 N. Charles Street.
One Grand Prize winner will be decided by audience vote at the May 12 Texas Tunes concert. The Grand Prize winner will earn a booking as the opening act at the July 17 Sounds of Lewisville concert in Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town Lewisville. The winner will have a 45-minute set beginning at 7 p.m. This performance will pay a $500 honorarium.
City of Lewisville employees, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate in this contest.
