Lewisville hosts iced tea festival Saturday, Aug. 13

icedteafest-logo-webLewisville will be the epicenter of iced tea this weekend when tea experts and farmers gather to share their knowledge and cool beverages at the Premier Event Center.

“Of course, in the South 85 percent of tea people drink is iced tea,” said Amanda Vermillion, festival director and certified tea master.

The second annual Lone Star Iced Tea Festival celebrates “the house wine of the South” in an air-conditioned venue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. Activities will include tastings, talks, demonstrations, samples, book signings and a best iced tea contest. There will also be live entertainment.

The festival will be held at the Premiere Event Center in Lewisville’s Lakeland Plaza, located off I-35 at 1165 S. Stemmons Freeway. Tickets can be bought ahead of time on Eventbrite at $10 for regular admission or $30 for admission and bubble tea tastings. Children ages up to and at 12-years-old get in free.

Event goers with birthdays on August 12, 13 and 14 will get in free with ID.

The first 100 adult ticket buyers will receive a “swag bag” with tea samples, magazines and other goodies. Advance tickets are available through the website.

This year’s theme is “Texas Tea,” a reference to the Lone Star State’s oil and gas heritage as well as a modern reference to the delicious beverage.

The iced tea contest is open to any businesses and will include three categories: traditional, specialty and bottled tea. Businesses may enter one tea per category. Entry fee is $25 per tea.

A silent auction will benefit Hearts Afire Deer Rescue.
