27 – SATURDAY

NORTH TEXAS STATE FAIR — 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. at North Texas State Fair Grounds, 2217 N. Carroll Blvd. in Denton. The annual nine-day fair and rodeo offers activities for all ages including live concerts, horse and livestock shows, and contests and cook-offs. The fair runs at various times through Aug. 27. FRESH IDEAS — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the MCL Grand, 100 N. Charles St. in Lewisville. The Visual Art League of Lewisville’s Fresh Ideas 2016 exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and during performances, through Sept. 10. WITHERSPOON DISTILLERY TOURS — 11 a.m. and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. at Witherspoon Distillery, 225 S. Charles St. in Lewisville. Public tours of the distillery are held Fridays at 4 p.m. and on Saturdays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5.p.m. (excluding major holidays). BE THE DINOSAUR — 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau, 636 S. Main St. The display uses video game technology in a hands-on exhibit featuring dinosaur bones and replicas, a paleontology field station and a Safari Jeep and more. UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the MCL Grand, 100 N. Charles St. The Visual Art League of Lewisville presents the exhibit through Saturday. The show features close-up views of various objects; Macro photography, paintings of small objects that fit the frame, and other artistic interpretations of magnified items that are personally meaningful to the artist. FREE VISION SCREENINGS — 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lewisville Public Library, 1197 W. Main St. The Lions Club offers free vision screenings on the last Sunday of each month. FLOWER MOUND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — 11:45 a.m. at Flower Mound Presbyterian Church, 1501 Flower Mound Road. Celebrate the church’s 162nd birthday with its oldest member, Miss Oleta Simmons Greer, who also will be turning 102. Main St. in Grapevine.  “Picturing Wonderland: Sir John Tenniel’s Illustrations for the Alice Books” is an exhibit of illustrations that complimented Lewis Carroll’s text for “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (1865) and “Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There” (1871).  Runs through Sept. 28, M-F 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.  Free.
