If you want to tell stories, break the news, capture action through pictures, design and sell ads, edit copy or learn how to produce a weekly newspaper in general, The Lewisville Texan Journal wants to meet you.

Wherever your interests lie in journalism, we have an internship that will help you get there.

We are taking applications for the spring and summertime.


Writing internship responsibilities
Interview local authorities and community influencers
Write at least one feature story or two news stories a week
Edit copy for grammar, spelling and AP style
Shoot photos (whether on a smartphone, personal equipment or an in-house DSLR)
Propose story ideas that would interest Lewisville Texans
Adhere to deadlines
Assist with news briefs and calendar

Photo internship responsibilities
Shoot photos of sports and events
Write cutlines that detail what the photo doesn’t show
Record Facebook Live sessions
Propose and execute photo story and video profile ideas

Sales internship responsibilities
Find new distribution locations in the area
Sell advertisements for online and print publication
Connect with local businesses and organizations
Pitch any new marketing ideas

We use LucidPress, WordPress, the Adobe creative suite and Google Drive to get our publication to Lewisville Texans. Experience with these tools is a plus, however, we can teach interns how to use them for their visual and written stories.

Editorial skills we are looking for

  • Media writing experience
  • Sense of newsworthiness
  • Detailed nature
  • Prompt work

Please send us three clips if you want to write for us or a portfolio if you’re interested in photography. Tell us why you’re interested in working with us and if you might be better suited for a section not listed. We are also open to providing internships to those who specifically want to edit copy or design layout.
